Supermodel Ujjwala Raut files for divorce, while Vikram and Priya Chatwal work to save their marriage
On Saturday evening, after the Mai Mumbai fashion show, part of the Fashion Week, as the who's who of society converged upon the three tiered China House for a post-show soiree, one was surprised to find an Amazonian blonde draped on the arms of host Vikram Chatwal. His wife Priya was not around. Earlier in the evening a luminous Ujjwala Raut walked the ramp, after a long span in her home city. The Chatwals, who had a lush wedding three years ago, have been spending almost a year apart from each other; while Ujjwala is based in New York and does occasional work in Mumbai. She was spotted with prominent divorce lawyer Mrunalini Deshmukh in the courts recently, and when queried on the status of their marriage Deshmukh simply said, "It is anyone's guess why we were together." Raut maintains a 'no comments' stance, saying, "I will talk about it in good time." A few months ago, Ujjwala was scouting to buy an apartment in Bandra.
The lavish Chatwal wedding that was hosted between Delhi and Jaipur will remain a talking point in society for many years to come for it had the jetsetters from across the globe converging upon the twin venues. Rumours have it that Vikram, who has acted in Ek Ajnabi and Honeymoon Travels and currently working with Shekhar Kapur on 3 Graces, and Priya Chatwal have been working hard to save their marriage for nearly a year now. Priya spends most of her time in her hometown Delhi with her daughter Safira. A prominent socialite observes that the couple had the baby way too early into the marriage and the trip from being an avid night-clubber and playboy in Manhattan to that of a father was too sharp a turn for Vikram to negotiate. In an earlier interview to Mumbai Mirror, Vikram had said that marriage requires a lot of work and that both he and Priya were working on theirs. Our source said that the couple are very good friends and make appearances together in society, they take holidays together and are devoted to their two-year-old daughter. Their parents are keen that the two give the marriage a shot. It is just that they are in different spaces, we are told, and are working to arrive at a common ground. |
