EMI (release on October 29, 2008)
EMI (Easy Monthly Installments), directed by debutant Saurav Kabra,
will star Sanjay Dutt, Aashish Chowdhry, Arjun Rampal, Urmila
Matondkar, Neha Oberoi, Manoj Joshi, Natasha Suri, Pushkar Jog,
Dayashankar Pandey, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Malaika Arora Khan.
Sanjay also sung the title song for the film. EMI is produced by
Shabbir Boxwala and presented by Suniel Shetty's banner Popcorn
Entertainment. The film is to deal with a subject common to every
middle class Indian: the pros and cons of what happens to an
individual after he takes up a loan. The film's tagline reads: Karz
liya hai, toh chukana padega (if you've taken a loan, you have to
repay it). It focuses on private banks hiring loan recovery agents to
pressure customers into paying up. After several debtors were reported
to have committed suicide because they were hounded, the Reserve Bank
of India recently issued guidelines to banks on the use of recovery
agents. Sanjay plays such a loan recovery agent (a character modeled
by the real-life agent Sandeep Arora whom Sanju several times met and
studied), a wasooli bhai with a heart of gold in the film: "I play
Sattarbhai, a loan recovery agent who realises the problems faced by
customers and banks, and tries to find a solution both would be happy
with. He is a flamboyant character who wears flashy gold watches and
chains but black clothes through the film." Urmila will play Sanjay's
love interest.
