John a Real Life Hero

John a Real Life Hero

Although 25-year-old Jerome Misquita knew he was going to die, he
wanted to meet actor John Abraham before breathing his last. John, who
has never boasted about his generosity, not only fulfilled Jerome's
last wish but also settled his hospital expenses.
A Bandra West resident, Jerome was suffering from intestinal
cancer and fighting for his life in Guru Nanak hospital, Bandra East.
Undeterred by his illness, Jerome was a very lively guy and had
befriended almost all the staff members in the hospital.
Understandably, Guru Nanak hospital's staff wanted to do all they
could to put a smile on Jerome's face. That's when Dr Sheilja Singh,
the physician who was attending to Jerome decided to seek help from
her family friend, director Rajkumar Hirani of Munnabhai fame. All
Sheilja Singh wanted was to do something to cheer up the patient, who
was being treated by cancer specialist Dr Vikas Palkar in the same
hospital.
Rajkumar Hirani and his wife Manjeet, who were more than ready to
help Jerome, asked Dr Sheilja Singh if they could get Sanjay Dutt or
Arshad Warsi or even the whole Munnabhai team to meet Jerome if he
wanted to.
However, Jerome said that he would like to meet John Abraham.
Dr Sheilja Singh confirms and says, "Yes. Jerome said that John is
his favourite star. I told Rajkumar and Manjeet, and within two days,
Manjeet called me to say that John was on his way to the hospital to
meet Jerome. I could not believe it."
John, who reached Mumbai from Bangalore, immediately went to Guru
Nanak hospital straight from the airport. Hirani too was present at
the hospital when John visited Jerome. Dr Sheilja Singh says, "John
sat with Jerome and they chatted for nearly half-an-hour. Jerome even
ran his hand through John's hair and kept admiring John's watch.
John's care and concern for Jerome was extremely genuine."
But, John didn't stop there.
A few days later, Dr Sheilja Singh saw John at the hospital's
reception desk. The two of them exchanged pleasantries. On enquiring,
Dr Sheilja Singh learnt that the actor had cleared Jerome's bill,
which was over Rs 1 lakh.
"Jerome's hospital bill was over Rs 1 lakh and John settled the
bill. I must say that John is a man with a heart," says Dr Sheilja.
Unfortunately, Jerome passed away two days later.
