It is reliably learnt that Sanjay Dutt has finally relented to the Samajwadi Party's determined bid to field the superstar as the party's candidate from Lucknow during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. According to reliable sources, the option of fielding Sanjay's wife Manyata Dutt has been dropped, as she isn't interested in a political career.

A source close to the actor said, "Sanjay, who has been shooting in Kashmir, had initially decided to put the matter of contesting elections on the backburner until he returned to Mumbai. However, the pressure to take a call was mounting.

Sanjay has apparently sent a message across to the high command that he is ready to take on the candidature. He returns to Mumbai to hold a press conference on January 16, to announce his decision to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections."

According to our source, Sanjay will proceed to Lucknow on January 17, for a meeting with Amar Singh and the party's high command. Here, every detail will be chalked out including the dates needed for canvassing.

The source added, "Sanjay has decided to set aside anything from 15 days to a month for the election campaigning, depending on when the elections are announced."

Dutt's political inclination is going to affect his film shooting, specially the ones scheduled in the second half of 2009, like Anil Kapoor's No Problem.

Sanjay Dutt Productions' CEO Dharam Oberoi evaded answering whether Dutt would join politics or not. Oberoi said, "After Mr Dutt completes the shooting in Kashmir, he goes to Mumbai. Then immediately he will shoot for Soham Shah's Luck in South Africa.

Both these films will be completed and so also Tony D'Souza's Blue. Ajay Devgan's film will also be started and completed as per schedule. Beyond that, Mr Dutt's plans will be revealed very shortly."
