Salman Khan’s used towel
Though our nation is fighting inflation and economic recession, there is no dearth of people who want to get their hands on the expensive memorabilia of their favourite stars. Now, Indians are also warming up to the idea of bidding for celebrity memorabilia, like the west.
The sites like eBay make this possible. In fact, many don’t have a clue that the frenzy for such goods started in India in 2005. As reported by a daily, a towel used by Salman Khan was sold for Rs 100,000; a star-struck fan paid for it.
Farah Khans’ new chat show ‘Tere Mere Beach Main’ started the trend of auctioning the celebrity-used things on the show. Recently, a 39-year-old investor bid for Priyanka Chopra’s autographed Gavin Maguel dress auctioned on Farah's show for Rs 50,000. Reason? His daughter is a fan of Priyanka.
A woman from Kolkata decided to bid for Olympic gold-medalist Vijender Singh's boxing gloves because she was moved by the story of his mother’s struggle to raise her son to be a champion boxer.
So you see, the reasons for Indians to splurge on this merchandise are simple - many do it for charity, some for showing love to their stars while some to feel motivated.
If you have money, better flaunt it.
