Review: ‘Main Aur Mrs Khanna’ fails to outshine diya this Diwali



Spicezee Bureau‘Main’ is Sohail Khan and Salman Khan alternatively, and ‘Mrs Khanna’ is, of course, Kareena Kapoor. Raina (Kareena Kapoor) is married to Samir (Salman Khan), but is wooed by Akash (Sohail Khan). Predictably, one gets to see Kareena’s (mostly) graces through the eyes of Akash and her (mostly) faults through the eyes of Samir.The film is supposed to be a romantic comedy. At least the presence of Govinda and the plotline of an extramarital interest within a married couple suggest so. However, the performance by the lead actors hardly manages to draw your attention away from the Diwali excitement around you. Mrs Khanna manages to grab part of your attention while lounging in an airport and making Salman and Sohail go gaga over her.While Samir has to decide whether he wants to stay in the same city that gave him everything and then took away more; Raina has to decide whether her love and loyalty for her husband, who left her to pursue success, is more justified than her faith and trust in her new found friend.Akash, on the other hand, has to find out what he feels for a married woman is lust or true love and is he justified in trying to win her even at the cost of her marriage.Thrown in is some situational comedy, courtesy Govinda, who plays troubled Salman’s friend. Also thrown in is some music, courtesy the situational dreams of Samir and Akash as they eye the very eyeful Mrs Khanna at suitable intervals throughout the film. Sadly, neither the comedy brings forth your involuntary guffaw, nor does the music manage to make your feet tap. The only saving grace is Priety Zinta, who has unabashedly swayed amazingly to a ‘Happening’ qawwali number, which does manage to have a gripping individuality of its own. While the film can be run in the background while you enjoy your Diwali with family and friends, it is by no chance one to devote your whole expectant attention to. The film simply fails to outshine the dazzling lights around the house. It is about you aur your wallet. Would you like to part with your recession-hit-hard-earned-money for someone who lost his 40 crore somewhere in these 2 hours? You might just want to spend it on some extra lighting at home, for that would cheer you up more this festival.Two stars to the film, because it is the season of being bountiful!
