Mahalaxmi - The Goddess of Wealth & Fortune

Laxmi ji ki aarti | Lakshmi aarti Pujan | laxmi puja |

Laxmi Puja starts with the placement of Goddess Lakshmi-Ganesh icon on a raised platform spread with a new cloth.

Lord Ganesh is worshiped at the beginning of every propitious of Hindu festivals and Lakshmi puja also starts with Ganapathi puja.

Place a onehand of grains in the centre of the puja place and place a kalash, lotta (pitcher). Fill three-fourth of the kalash with water and place a betel nut, a flower, a coin, and some rice grains in under the water. Arrange five kinds of leaves or mango leaves in the kalash.

Place a small dish on the kalash and fill it with rice grains. Draw a lotus with turmeric powder (haldi) over the rice grains and place the idol of goddess Lakshmi and Ganesha.

Over it, along with coins. You will also place pens, books related to your business or occupation on the platform.

Light a deepak (lamp) and the Agarbatti (incense sticks) begin the puja by offering haldi, kumkum, and flowers to the platform on which the kalash is placed. Spray this kalash water on all puja utensils for purifying. Make a Panchamitra with the thing of milk, curd, ghee (clarified butter), sugar & honey.

Start with Ganesh Pujan (Ganeshji should be worshiped in all pujas before any other god or goddess by Ganesh Mantras and Ganesh aarti. Offer a garland to the god. Offer flowers and make an offering of sweets, coconut and fruits.

Place the idol of Lakshmi in a plate and bathe it with water, panchamrit again with water containing some gold ornament or a precious thing. Wipe the idol clean and place it back on the kalash. Now raise goddess Laxmi by Laxmi mantras. Then offer the flowers to the idol.

Offer sandal paste, haldi, kumkum and garland to the goddess. Offer flowers, sweets, coconut and fruits. Offer sweets and other Prashad to the Goddess which is made especially for the Lakshmi Puja occasion, and distribute it to all members which presents.

These sweets and prashad must be distributed to the others. Light the lamps and candles all around the house. No corner of the house should be left in darkness. Lamps are lit in the evening to welcome the Goddess (this is because of the reason that lights on the path will show her path).

Lakshmi is the goddess of light, beauty, good fortune and wealth. Lakshmi was the daughter of the wise Bhrigu. Goddess Laxmi emerged out of the Kshir Sagar (ocean of milk) during the great churning of the oceans (Samudra Manthan). When the gods saw Lakshmi, they all fell in love with her beauty. Lakshmi herself preferred to Lord Vishnu. The process of Puja and Laxmiji aarti is given here.

Worship of Goddess Lakshmi is on the third day of Diwali celebrations. Diwali festival is celebrated on October/November for about five days. Diwali brings a series of festivals with it and we get a chance to celebrate five festivals together. It is believed that on this day goddess of happiness and good fortune, Lakshmi roams the earth enters the house which is pure, clean, and bright.
People renovate and decorate their houses and business places. On the entrances there are made colorful traditional Rangoli designs for welcome Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. On the Diwali festival Laxmi Puja is the main event and performed with great beliefs by the people.
