The latest Bollywood songs played at Indian weddings change as fast as the popular Bollywood movies themselves. Below is a list of hit songs from recent movies that are currently making the rounds at every wedding in India.

Here are the current Top 20 favorites, in alphabetical order. The movies that the Bollywood songs are taken from are provided in brackets, along with a translation of the title – though the meaning of the song is definitely conveyed better in Hindi .

Bhangra is a music and dance form that originated in Punjab. Because of its powerful beats that lend themselves for fusion with other music styles like hip hop, rap, house and pop music, bhangra has become a favorite with DJs and dancers worldwide, especially in the UK, the US and Canada. Bhangra music is the only contemporary Indian music that is as popular as the Bollywood tunes. Below is a list of five all-time great bhangra songs; the singers are mentioned in brackets.
A Popular Wedding Song of Punjab
Staying with Punjabi music, there is also a popular wedding song that is used in North India to call different members of the bride’s or groom family to the dance floor. The song lyrics are always the same, only the last word is changed each time to rhyme with the family member’s name, usually the general term like uncle, aunt, etc.
Baari barsi khatan gaya si, khat ke le aandi... – I went to get the harvest, instead I got [insert family member’s name].
Te bhangda taan sajda, je nache munde (kudi) di (diyan)... – The bhangra really rocks when the boy’s/girl’s [insert the next family member’s name] dances.
So, regardless if one is dancing to Bollywood hits or bhangra tunes – dancing is a must at Indian weddings and great fun for young and old.
