Then there's a montage set to a happy song, the screen splitting into three frames as we see the three boys, and a shot of a dancing Aamir. A furied Kareena Kapoor rides a Vespa surreally on a beach and we have Boman Irani pedalling a bicycle, as if to match. A few romantic Aamir-Kareena shots are next, amid a bevy of Bhardwajesque blue umbrellas. Graduation hats are thrown into the air and the three boys sit on chairs with massive plastic behinds and emerge naked from barrels as the films title looms over them.

That 3 Idiots is a Rajkumar Hirani film and a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production isn't news, but it's notable to see that they've shaken off the Chetan Bhagat tag and are going ahead with calling this their film. The film was originally said to be an adaptation of Bhagat's bestselling Five Point Someone but Hirani, Chopra and Munnabhai co-writer Abhijat Joshi started there but ended up writing a wholly original script. Then comes a quick snippet of a scene with a goofy Aamir and an angry Kareena, and we're told that 'admissions open December 25.'

The trailer's fun, and the film looks pretty breezy, even though it must be said that Khan -- in an attempt to fit in with much younger actors -- looks to be overcompensating. Then again, its hard to judge that based on 90 seconds of shared, mostly-montaged screentime and the Khan and Hirani combination is sure to be fascinating. Bollywood could sure do with a Christmas present this year. And who better to give it to us than the cheer-spreading Mr Hirani? Enroll us, sir, bring it on.
