Why No Angels and Demons in multiplexes in national multiplexes

Why No Angels and Demons in multiplexes in national multiplexes

Today all over India Hollywood film, Angels and Demons starring Tom Hanks has released. But the release has been mostly restricted to single screens and no big multiplexes. The reason being the same old revenue sharing terms issue!

It is learnt that a consensus between Sony Pictures and national multiplex owners had almost reached late last night but it fizzled out Sony Pictures reportedly wanted a clear commitment from multiplexes with the first and second week terms being 55 and 50. Apparently, Sony Pictures was asking for revenue sharing terms of 55, 50, 45, 40 for the first four weeks. Multiplexes couldn't however agree on this as they felt the terms are too high from what they had been giving for English films prior to this. For big Hollywood films like Harry Potter and Spiderman they had signed terms of 48:52, 38:62, 30:70 and the one for Angels and Demons was a big jump from that. One can recollect that at least 60 - 65 per cent of English films' box office collections come from multiplexes. However it is learnt that, Sony is screening the movie at independent multiplex chains in Delhi and Pune like Wave Cinemas, Satyam Cinemas and E-Square.
