Billu Barber Name Controversy | Barber a derogatory Word

Billu Barber Name Controversy | Barber a derogatory Word

Shah Rukh Khan did the right thing by removing the word 'barber' from
his film. You cannot call a 'mochi' a mochi so why call (us) a barber
or a hajam? That's wrong," says Mohammad Arif, a barber, who makes a
living in the Mumbai suburb of Mahim.

Arif says this in reaction to the title of Shah Rukh Khan's new film,
Billu Barber. As barbers across the nation protest against the title,
finding it objectionable and derogatory, the superstar has modified
the film's name to Billu.

"There are many other words like 'salon owner,' 'hair-cutter' or
'hairstylist'," he continues. "Why use the word 'barber' when you have
other options?"

Not so long ago, Madhuri Dixit-starrer Aaja Nachley found itself
centered in the same controversy because one of its songs used the
word 'mochi'. The lyrics were: 'Bazaar mein machi hai maar, bole mochi
bhi khud ko sunar'

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati banned the film after she found
the song derogatory, and the word had to be deleted from the song.
