Producer:
  1. Aap Kaa Surroor: The Moviee - The Real Luv Story (2007) (producer)
  2. Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai (2006) (producer)
... aka Humko Tumse Pyar Hai (India: Hindi title: alternative transliteration)

For over a decade, Vijay K. Taneja burnished his reputation as a prominent member of the local Indian community, helping fellow immigrants with mortgages for their first homes while promoting the culture of his homeland with glitzy touring shows with Bollywood film stars.

In November, however, federal prosecutors revealed that Taneja's persona was a sham, alleging that he had defrauded lending institutions out of more than $33 million, some of which might have financed his high-flying film endeavors. Dozens of area residents -- many of them fellow members of the Indian community who had looked up to the financier -- were defrauded as well, prosecutors said.

U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton today sentenced Taneja to seven years in federal prison for his actions. Taneja had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering in November.

At a brief morning hearing at U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Learned called the sentence significant and fair for what was "a serious matter and a complicated matter."

With Taneja's cooperation, lawyers are still trying to untangle the web of corrupt financing that reached around the globe. Prosecutors believe it was the largest bank fraud prosecuted in federal court in Alexandria in over two decades.

Taneja, wearing a dark charcoal suit, took the stand briefly and apologized for his actions.

"I'm very sorry about my conduct and the embarrassment to my family," he said. "I fully accept my responsibilities, and I am really very sorry."

  2. Anonymous two is a moron. They should lock him up. He misused people's faith, trust, and respect in him. It wasn't a mistake, an accident. He purposely did it, numerous times, with no concern or care for anyone. How many lives has he now ruined as a result. You're the stupid one for defending this crook. He is like Tikiri Mayu Bogollagama, a conman from Mclean, Virginia, who did a number of ponzi schemes like Taneja. All crooks should pay for their crimes.

  3. Annonymous 2 and 4, you're beyond stupid. Defending a man, Taneja, who's already admitted to his crimes. He scammed people intentionally, for money. That's not up for debate. That's a material fact. As for Tikiri Mayu Bogollogama and Dr. Punarjeeva Karunanayake, both are reputed conmen with ties to the Sri Lankan underbelly. But, Annonymous 2 and 4, same guy I know, you're just a stupid, naive person that should be one of these guys victims or probably is, because you're so dumb...

  4. It is bcoz of a**h**** like Vijay Taneja that our community gets a bad name. I have no sympathy for his wife or kids either. But I don sympathize for all the innocent clients he cheated. I sympathize with their wife and children. He stole their futures. His going into bankruptcy does not help them in anyway. They are screwed for ever. As a policy, most of us (Indians) here have decided not to work with any Indian mortgage broker or agent of any kind.

  6. You guys are all really mean. My father is the greatest dad alive. He is not fighting anyone against the purpose of this, hes taking what he does and is not complaining. What would u feel like if you were his daughter and saw people writing bad stuff about him? That hurts a lot. So shut up and mind your own buisness and dont go critisizing my dad.

  7. First of all, it's a sad thing for any child to see the worst aspects of their parents being brought to light, but the facts are what your father did was hurtful to many people and illegal. It doesn't make him a bad father or even a bad person necessarily. It does however allow for people to make harsh criticism about him. Also, your father was a person who courted publicity and who wanted everyone to treat him as a big boss. Everyone respected when they thought he earned it honestly and believed in him. When it turn out that none of it was true, people were hurt but it. Of course people are going to be upset. If you don't want to hear bad things about him, then simply do not read them...

  8. Vijay Taneja got a mere seven years for defrauding banks of $33 million, borrowers some of whom he knew, and investors. Sorry does not cut it. He's not an idiot. The judge who gave him such a light sentence is a first rate idiot. Taneja's contribution to the natonal and global financial crisis will take at least 15 years to repair, which is just on a macro level. Repairing the damage to the people's lives ... put a number and time on that. The contribution Taneja made to devaluing the U.S. dollar? The Bank of England hanged people for devaluing money, and that was duly noted on their currency. Taneja, and those like him, should be hanged. The harm that comes from mortgage fraud is far more serious than the violent crime of an armed bank robbery.

  12. you're 7 and using the internet to read comments on a sketchy blog, hum? I'm not convinced. If that's the case, well you shouldn't be such a spoiled, self-centered brat. Your cheat of a father forced people on the streets, made them loose their homes, their livelihoods, so that you could have your dream home and dream room. People who are angered by this do feel sorry for you because of your greedy father's mistakes, but you should also think about what he did to so many too...

  18. Punarjeeva Karunanayake and his partner in DC, Tikiri Mayu Bogollagama, orchestrated a similar scam utilizing the name of the Ceylon Insruance Company- Ceylinco. They created the Ceylon Hotel Development Group and sold phony shares to naive DC investors with the promise and assurities of Ceylinco. Since Punarjeeva's mother was a high up in Ceylinco, this was an easy task to do. They would get investors excited over Ceylinco's assets and claim that this new development company was the "US" subsidiary in charge of all new hotel projects. Then, an investor would purchase an equity share that would be securitized by real estate in the District and Virginia. However, the money that came to them was then used to purchase the property, so if you gave $1 million dollars, you would have "collateral" in a high-end property, that was probably only worth $400k. Jeeva and Mayu would then take the balance and buy fancy cars, Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Luxury Boats, tacky but expensive clothes, and pay for transveties to act as their girlfriends. They collected about $5 million doing this. Now Mayu has filed for Bankruptcy and Jeeva is scared to come to the US because the authorities are looking for him. By the way, Vijay Taneja was an awesome person. He didn't mean to do this stuff, he made a mistake and tried to leverage his assets to recoup his losses, but the market crashed and he got stuck with the tab. People were doing this for years when the market was Hot. Jeeva and Mayu are pure evil, they never intended to ever repay any investors, just to fuel their flamboyant homosexual lifestyles

  19. vijay taneja is a crook and always will be, he still has money overseas and is still going to continue doing crimes even when he gets out of prison. I have no sympathy for him or his kids, his daughters were spending lavishly with other peoples money and were living the high life while other people were losing money. He deserves more than 7 years, Ill defraud banks of 33 million and live like a baller if i know its only going to get me 7 years, bah ridiculous.

Ok, so just to set the scene, close you eyes, picture a fatter, darker, uglier version of Balki from Perfect strangers, but my accent is worst. I sound like a *** foreigner, Brunoish, but with a more effeminate, thicker accent. Also, I have a greased back mullet, beedy eyes, and my designer clothes were purchased from a 1980 thrift store. Now I begin…

I am a crusader against all. I work tirelessly and everything I have done was done with the intention of building a huge Howard Hughes fan base. Yes, that is it. That is why I have screwed over dozens of people and stolen their life savings. I did so because I want to grow my Howard Huges fan base to dwarf any other obsure eccentric figure from the 1930s world of aviation’s fan base. So take that you Amelia Earhart blowhards or Lindbergh Lovers.

I am the Mighty Mayu and my fanbase increases exponentially when I come on worthless blogs to defend accusations of greed, corruption, and stupidity. I cannot be touched. I laugh, no, no, chuckle in the face of all who question my fanbase. My multi-billion play dollars construction projects will prove to the world that I am a visionary. Governments on Farmville tremble before me. Mini-Dictators fear me and I bed the finest transvestites, the slums of the District has even seen.

Now since I can’t even pay off a $200k judgment and was forced to file for bankruptcy because of it, I know that those of you in my fanbase (mom, imaginary friends 1 through a trillion), are wondering why. Well, and this came as a huge surprise to me as well, the only explanation I can give is that real people do not seem to accept monopoly money. I’ve even offered to pay them triple, but these idiots, don’t they realize that the Parker Brothers line of credit extents to a whole host of other projects. Risk, the game of life, battleship, mahjong, I mean, mahjong, come on.

Well, I shall continue building my empire (though lego sets aren’t what they use to be) and soon enough, real people will tremble at the thought of me. Muahahahahaha, hehe, Muahhahaa.
