Konkona Sen Sharma has morphed from a gauche Bollywood outsider to a chic girl about town

There can be no non-conformists in Bollywood; and even Aparna Sen’s daughter must fix herself on the correct template. It’s a world where Dior polished faces air kiss togged up in Manish Malhota/ Neeta Lulla ensembles.
So it was only a matter of time that the St Stephen-ite and the girl next-door from Alipore (an upper crust Kolkata neighbourhood) would shed her casually understated clothes and go the whole hog.
While at that, there have been a few hiccups: consider her baby steps in mainstream cinema when she decided to make a sharp turn from the stunning Mr and Mrs Iyer and 15 Park Avenue to the lackluster Traffic Signal and Laga Chunri Mein Daag. But Bollywood colours are for keeps.
Both are disastrous attempts at morphing into a fashionista, until someone evidently tells her that the make-up needed to be right. She manages that, but what’s with that peacock outfit? She hits bull’s eye finally in a pink tunic and a pair of straight denims, the hair and make-up pronouncing casual chic.
Unwittingly, she has come into herself: a well-groomed and educated girl about town.
