The Mukesh factor in Neil’s life

The Mukesh factor in Neil’s life

No one would ever think that the jacket which Neil wore in his debut film Johnny Gaddar belonged to his grandfather, legendary singer Mukesh, who was known to be the singing voice of Raj Kapoor. Well, that's not the only thing Neil will be seen sporting in his films. There is something about Mukesh and his possessions in all of Neil's films.
Neil Mukesh
"Yes in every film of mine I have used something of his, maybe his jacket or a pen. That Johnny Jacket which I used in the train sequence was his. In Aa Dekhe Zara I am wearing his watch so there's always something that I have used in my films. Such is the strong connection I have with my grandfather." says Neil.

He further informs that as a child he used to tell his grand mother to gift him things from his grandfather's cupboard. He reveals "I was extremely close to my grandmother who passed away a couple of months back. Every Friday and Saturday I used to go upstairs and stay with her but my only condition was that she had to give one thing from my grandfather's cupboard. Now I have a wardrobe which is filled with only my grandfather's belongings.

Neil was born after his grandfather's death but still knows him quite well through newspaper cuttings, camera footage and his recorded interviews. "Sometimes I feel I don't know him and at the same time I feel I know a lot about him. I have connected with him in a stronger way more than may be my father has." He signs off.
