karan Johar's next 2 movies sold to UTV for Rs 78 Crores

karan Johar's next 2 movies sold to UTV for Rs 78 Crores

The recent spate of flops has taken its toll on Yash Raj Films. So much so that Karan Johar was left with no choice but to ink a deal with UTV Motion Pictures to release two of his forthcoming films, Ayaan Mukherjee's Wake up Sid starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma and Rensil D'Silva's untitled film starring Saif-Kareena and Vivek Oberoi.
Our source said, "While there are constant reports about a rift between Karan Johar and Yash Raj Films, this time the issue is quite different. Yash Raj Films has suffered heavy losses because of their latest films. Except Chak De! India, none of their films have worked at the box-office. As for Bachna Ae Haseeno and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, these two films have only done average business. This is why Yash Raj Films wasn't too keen to block any more money or acquire either of Karan's
films. Karan had no choice but to get UTV into the picture. Of course, UTV was more than ready to release both the Dharma Productions films."
Irrespective of the business aspect that forced Karan to approach UTV, his latest move is bound to come as a surprise to many. Karan is very close to the Chopras professionally as well as personally. Over the years, Yash Raj Films released all of Karan's films right from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to the recent Dostana.
Another source said, "UTV has acquired the rights of both the films for Rs 78 crore. They are excited about bagging both the films. They have made a big leap in the market by acquiring these two films."
None of the UTV officials were willing to comment on the news.
When contacted, Karan Johar said, "It's not true."
However, our source maintains that the deal between UTV and Dharma Productions is about to be finalised soon.
