Yuvvraaj Music Review
Subhash Ghai is one guy who knows how important music is for a Bollywood movie. He makes a good effort to ensure quality to the last bit. His soundtracks sell better than his films sometimes. Remember Taal? A.R Rahman's music topped the charts for a really long time and the film blew up at the box office. Subhash Ghai is back with another flick titled Yuvvraaj. The film stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan in lead roles. The music has been composed by A.R Rahman and the lyrics have been penned down by Gulzar. A typical Subhash Ghai menu. Yuvvraaj is slated for a November release. The music is finally out so let's check it out!

The soundtrack starts with Salman Khan with the fifth of Beethoven trying to introduce his character in the film. As usual he's more confusing than ever. Skip it and move to the next track Tu Meri Dost Hain (it is actually Hain and not Hai) which starts off really well. Sung by Banny Dayal and Shreya Goshal, the song is a soothing melody. The next track Shano Shano is a surprise from A.R Rahman. It sucks right from the moment it begins. Tu Muskura by Alka Yagnik and Javed Ali is another soft number. Gulzar's lyrics are not as extraordinary as they usually are. Mastam Mastam is a typical A.R Rahman melody. It will remind you of Saathiya. Zindagi, the next track, reminds me of Hariharan. Rang De Basanti has a track which could easily be blamed for this song. Skip the next track. Manmohini Mere is my favourite track in the entire soundtrack. It has been sung by Vijay Prakash, a dude I have never heard of before, but he managed to make up for the bad music in the album. A slow yet excellent track. The soundtrack ends with a remix of Shano Shano. The remix is actually better than the original version.
On the whole, I really hope the double 'V' and 'A' work for Yuvvraaj. The soundtrack isn't worth the money at all. Except for two tracks, the soundtrack is dull. Subhash Ghai and A.R Rahman have managed to disappoint. Finally!

ReplyDeletethis is called a review?.. must be joking right? im from france and i loved the music of yuvvraaj though i dont understand the language...its based on western classical music, so i guess its understandable that indians dont get it... a r rahman is a very confident and audacious composer i must say!

ReplyDeleteYour review is really bad. Please stop comparing with earlier works . Also u have not followed universal law that for each rahman track , it has to be given a few hearing . All the classics of rahman have grown to mass in such a manner .So it is real stupdity to venture into giving a music review for a rahman work without giving it 10 hearing . Alos please donot download and hear the song . Buy a good quality headphone and use an original audio CD. And then after at least 15 hearing , u check if your opinion is the same as above. If its still no change , then i would " each person has a different taste for music" .I am 200% sure that you will update your review with " Paisa Vasool " .

woow! gr8 music..i feel this is the music album of the year..just superb songs..i truly love.."MASTAM MASTAM" would be the best song of the yaer..but the review is just opposite i think they dont know how to feel the music..bad luck

ReplyDeleteYou have serious issues! I really mean it and I am concerned ... I know people can wide ranging tastes...but there are some melodic patterns that are universal. This album is a very nice album. Period.
Did you think you could get some publicity by being different? Or are you completely out a-musical?
Either case..you have issues that you need to deal with rather urgently...take care man!

ReplyDeletePal, you fundamentally cannot appreciate Rahman's compositions. You do not have an ear for diversity of musical styles. Had you not by some stroke of luck known Beethoven, you might have said the same for the Beethoven piece! And you don't know Vijay Prakash? That says it all - you are a novice and a jerk.
Agli baar, kaan saaf karke sunna... but as regards reviews, I seriously recommend that you desist from penning another review without a sound appreciation of diverse musical styles. Nothing in your review makes sense - you lack the essentials for grasping any new composition, leave alone reviewing them.
I was utterly disappointed when i first listened to the whole album. It was as if it wasnt Rahman after ‘tu hi tho meri dost hain’. But i remember I had experienced similar emotions when i first heard ‘dil se’ .. i thought the album just went downhill after ‘chaiyya chaiyya’ .. but we all know it’s probably arr’s best album ever. Anyway, coming back to yuvvraaj, i persisted with this album, listening to it many times in my car and guess what I think i’ve started to like this album a lot, yes including Shano Shano. We all have learned we should let arr’s music grow on us and not be critical of it as soon as we finish first hearing.
ReplyDeleteI think while most of other musicians’ songs climb the charts as soon as they’re released and fall very quuckly, arr’s albums take a while to pick up pace and they remain memorable even some years down the line.
I would give this an 8 .. may be more as time passes and I discover newer things in the album.. I’m sure there’s more...

I read your review and I agree with your choice of songs, which sounded good in the album. I am big fan of AR and so I won't criticize him that often. And when I downloaded all the songs and listened to it 4 or 5 times, I cornered in on only 5 songs which sounded good. That list matches your list. I did not like Shano, Srinivas song and one more one. So, other readers, his review is good.

ReplyDeletewhy hype commercial ARR film music so much ? Film music is rarely truly original. If one makes a mix of western classical, karnatic music and great erstwhile rock/pop songs, and spice it with technology, then u get an ar rahman song.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that he is a genius in fusing different genres, but very few of his songs are truly original and built from the scratch. Others are all mixing and smartness.
To illustrate, listen to Yuvraajs music without the technology effects, then it will definitely sound ordinary. True music should sound good even when not mixed with gr8 sound effects today's technology is capable of.
