Naseeruddin Shah, ex-student of FTII said, "There is no need for another Naseeruddin; every actors personality should come up. They should be originals in themselves." He said acting cannot be learned and taught.
Teachers can just show some paths, it depends upon the students grasping capacity.
Shabana Azmi who was a student at FTII from 1971-1973 said, "I did my graduation from Xaviers and being a daughter of Kaifi Azmi my seniors used to often rag me. One day as Zarina Wahab and I were climbing steps, Romesh Sharma, who was then senior to me posed as our professor and started ragging us. I became nervous and thought that I have misbehaved with a faculty member. But, we later discovered that he was our senior."
Romesh Sharma who was also present at the occasion recounted the ragging episode and told, "I remember the incident, tears rolled down from Shabana's eyes at that time. Ragging was very common at FTII.
I experienced the same when Kiron Kher and Raza Murad were my seniors and they ragged me. Mohan Sharma, a star from south recalled, "Asha Sachdev made me dance on the canteen table."
