Mumbai: Kannada actor Monica Susairaj, who is currently in jail on charges of murdering Synergy Adlabs creative head Neeraj Grover at her Malad residence on May 8, has written to her fiance and co-accused Emile Jerome, stating how the duo could defend themselves in court.
    In the letter—which is mostly in Kannada but written in the Roman (English) script—Susairaj said she was reading a legal case and had come up with a plausible theory for killing Grover in selfdefence. "Darling, what if I say, that night when I was talking to you, I told you he was acting funny? My phone was switched off and you got worried and called him on his phone but he did not let you speak to me properly and hung up on you. You panicked and left Cochin. After speaking to his friends, he tried to rape me by threatening me with a knife. When he kept the knife aside, I took it and in self-defence, stabbed him,'' the letter says.
The police have said the duo killed Grover in cold blood and later disposed of his body in Manor jungles. However, the letter says, "I pushed him away and locked the door before running out and locking myself in the bathroom. He shouted for a while and after that, I don't know what happened as I stayed inside the bathroom till morning, when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and saw it was you. I told you what had happened and when you went to that room, you found him lying dead. So, to save me, to save your wife, you helped dispose of the body.''
Susairaj and Jerome's trial is likely to start on October 16. While some said Je ro m e k i l l e d Grover in a fit of rage when he found him in bed with Susairaj, the police stated, in their chargesheet, that it was a premeditated act in which both had taken part.
