GUPTA WISHES BENEGAL SUCCESS IN 'CHAMKI' REVIVAL

GUPTA WISHES BENEGAL SUCCESS IN 'CHAMKI' REVIVAL

Though Sanjay Gupta of White Feathers was very keen on producing 'Chamki', but he regrets to have failed in doing so because of a lot of problems. First of all, the artistes were not giving their dates then they were finding its offbeat subject quite uncomfortable. So, Sanjay went ahead with his next ventures on hand like 'Acid Factory', 'Alibaug', 'Pankh' and 'The Great Indian Butterfly'. But, he always loved its script and felt like reviving it. However, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that Shyam Benegal is reviving it, and immediately complimented Benegal for taking up this venture. In the meanwhile, White Feathers has scotched all the reports that 'Chamki' didn't come up because Priyanka Chopra had rejected the offer and even Urmila Matondkar, the second choice, had expressed inability on monetary grounds.

That's why Gautam Kohli, spokesperson of White Feathers, has clarified that Sanjay Gupta is very happy that 'Chamki' is being revived by Shyam Benegal, as Gupta always believed in the script. However, he regrets that he couldn't do it himself. In the same breath, the spokesperson scotches all reports that the movie didn't come up because Priyanka Chopra had refused to do it and even Urmila Matondkar, the second choice, had declined on monetary grounds. The company admits that Priyanka was approached for the role of Chamki but she felt the character was extremely negative and not something she wanted to do at that point of time in her career. As far as Urmila Matondkar is concerned, Mr Gupta never approached her, the spokesperson claims.
