Abhishek Bachchan's 'Drona' and Imran Khan's 'Kidnap' will be released on oct 2.

Abhishek Bachchan's 'Drona' and Imran Khan's 'Kidnap' will be released on oct 2.

AFTER A few sedate weeks, with a string of low-cost and medium-budget films, it is time to get ready for the bigger filmmakers at the box office. Come October 2 and two big films will be released. The first release will be Abhishek Bachchan starrer, Drona while the second one will be Imran Khan’s Kidnap. The two films will be contesting for their fates at the box-office.

It is inevitable that comparisons are drawn when there is a clash of two films being released on the same day. Competition is likely to get ignited once these films are released. A likely tussle is being foreseen between Abhishek and the new heartthrob of tinsel town, Imran. So, the million-dollar question is: Which film will open better at the box office – Drona or Kidnap? Will Abhishek be able to overpower his presumably arch-rival, Imran or whether Imran will kidnap the fate of Drona? Viewers are in for a real treat!

It is speculated that both the films may get a good opening due to holidays and festive season. However, going by early predictions it is believed that Kidnap may fare better. Though Drona is a very big and costly production (Rs 50 crore plus), the former may have an upper hand because its lead star, Imran Khan is riding high after the success of his debut film, Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa. As a result, he is very fresh among the viewers, especially the youth. On the other hand, a lot is on stake for Abhishek as Drona is a much hyped movie because of its theme and mammoth budget. Moreover, going by the dismal performances of his films in the recent times, it will be a tough challenge. Abhishek has not had a good run after Mani Ratnam’s Guru. Drona will also showcase the capability of Abhishek as a solo star (the only other star in the movie is Priyanka Chopra) and it will be interesting to see whether he is able to pull in audiences to theatres or not.

No doubt, Imran seems to be enjoying much more adulation than Abhishek. To add extra punch, there is Sanjay Dutt in Kidnap who also commands a huge fan following. Even its promos seem to outclass that of Drona’s. Kidnap, will surely make Drona run for money.

There are speculations about Drona’s theme. Some say that it’s a super-hero movie whereas some say it’s a supernatural drama.

However, director of the film, Goldie Behl, says it’s not a superhero flick and is an Indian fantasy and adventure film. Goldie is so sure of his film’s success that he has even declared to come out with its sequel before its release!

Kidnap appears to be an action/thriller film where Imran plays the role of a young man with a rugged tanned look who kidnaps the daughter of a billionaire (Sanjay Dutt) to settle personal scores. This film may also serve as a litmus test for Imran, who has been cast in a rough and tough role that has grey shades, which is in contrast to his chocolate hero image.

Both the producers want their films to turn into a mega success. Abhishek and Goldie could be seen on various reality shows on TV promoting their film. Imran Khan was also seen on some reality shows with Minisha Lamba – the actress of the film. For now, there are lots of positives in favour of Kidnap. And it looks stronger when compared to Drona, but you never know what the audience would like. The ultimate verdict will emerge when the movies release at theatres on Thursday (October 2).
