It is this country’s first — Mumbai being only the second city after Paris to host a Couture Week; and it is also the first time four Miss Indias will walk the fashion ramp. Put your hands together for Parvathy Omanakuttan, Pantaloons Femina Miss India World 2008, Tanvi Vyas, Pantaloons Femina Miss India Earth 2008, Mumbai girl Amruta Patki, Femina Miss India Earth 2006 and Miss Earth Air 2006, and Simran Kaur Mundi, Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe 2008.

Ritu Kumar opens the HDIL ICW and having designed the national costumes for these girls when they were participants in the Miss India pageant, the Delhi couturier is pleased to have Parvathy, Tanvi and Amruta as her clothes horses. “These pretty girls have made us proud around the world,” said Ritu, “it’s time India saw them in other wear apart from their national costumes.”

Simran, meanwhile, will walk for designer J J Valaya on Day 2. The Miss Indias are eager to show their stuff on the catwalk. Said Amruta, “To sport designer wear which is opulent and made by the best craftsmen in the country is an attractive bet. Also, I know this event is the first for Mumbai and I am a Mumbai girl, so I want to make my contribution to this.” While Parvathy, who is from Kerala, and Gujarati beauty Tanvi have marked the Couture Week as the most important event in their schedules and are just waiting to scorch the ramp. Simran, who previously worked for an ad agency and is known for her million dollar smile and flawless skin, is looking forward to walk for Valaya. “I know his line is always beautiful and I am excited like hell,” she said.
