Mahendra Kapoor Dead
Great fan of singer Mohammad Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor started his career in Bollywood with hit song 'Aadha Hai Chandra Ma, Raat Aadhi' and shot to fame. He was a favourite of producer–director B R Chopra and sang many songs in his films. He also sang the title song of Chopra's popular TV serial, Mahabharat, in the late 1980s. His most popular number 'Mere desh ki dharti sona ugle' from the film UPKAR, which had won him prestigious National award, has become immortal and till date cherished as one of the most popular patriotic song.
The Maharashtra Government had recently honoured him with Lata Mangeshkar Award for his lifetime contribution in playback singing.
His funeral took place yesterday (on Sunday) where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed grief over the death of noted playback singer Mahendra Kapoor.
