C Kkompany – Movie Review
If C-grade komedy with over-the-top characters happens to be your idea of entertainment, then C Kkompany is meant for you.
Otherwise, it is recommended that your avoid this crappy and corny Kkompany which is full of carelessly contrived situations, forced-in item songs, and a tasteless publicity of Ekta Kapoor’s serials.
What’s most shocking is that the film fails to tap on the comic talents of its leading men – Tusshar Kapoor , Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav .
The trio play three losers in desperate need for money. Akshay Kumar (Tusshar) is a crime reporter ironically in love with a gangster’s daughter ( Raima Sen ). The gangster ( Mithun Chakraborty ) loves watching Ekta Kapoor’s serials.
Mr. Mukherjee (Anupam Kher) has to listen to the constant taunting of his selfish son and daughter-in-law who think the old man is a burden on them.
Lamboordar (Rajpal Yadav) is looked down upon by his towering wife and son who regard him as a loser in life.
All three men need money to set their lives on the right track. So they form a gang named ‘C Kkompany’ (named after the ‘C’ wing of the society in which they reside) that achieves overnight popularity and the three losers become the modern-day Robinhoods in the eye of the public.
The movie’s concept does sound nice on paper. But writer-turned-director has not been able to make an engaging film out of it. Firstly, why the heck did he put in item songs (on Sanjay Dutt and Celina Jaitley ) without any faintest connection to the story? Secondly, the humour in the film mostly borders on slapstick and works only at few places. The gags are just ordinary at best. But the most tormenting is the second half, when the focus shifts of the adventures of the C Kkompany.
There’s not much to write about the performances, but Tusshar does fine in a few sequences while Anupam Kher mostly overacts. Rajpal Yadav, as a man with inferiority complex, is the best of the three.
Raima Sen looks gorgeous but doesn’t have a meaty role. Mithun Chakraborty is charming in a few scenes.
‘C Kkompany’ suffers because the director lets the plot go haywire after a fairly decent beginning. Too many different angles to the story end up making a hodgepodge of the film.
Rating: *1/2
