Bollywood love is age blind

Bollywood love is age blind

In an age when we see a tender love story between a teenage couples releasing every week, there have been some filmmakers who have dared to do something different with highlighting the romance between the elder couple.

So actors who you would see not more than a mother or a father are now seen as elder lovers.

We list down a few of the prominent pairs
Amitabh Bachchan – Hema Malini

It’s but natural that the list has to start with Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini in Baghban. The duo was paired together in several films earlier but with the 2003 film, their chemistry was redefined and they came across as the most smooth-going couple. Their romance at 60 was the focus of the film and the duo did complete justice to their pairing.

Not even some young pairs look as compatible as an Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini did in Baghban.

Rishi Kapoor – Dimple Kapadia

The duo started their career together with Bobby that went on to be a blockbuster hit of the 70s. Three decades later both had already retired but when they planned for a comeback incidentally they ended up landing in the same film and being romantically paired opposite each other. Director Hriday Shetty was attempting to recreate the Bobby chemistry from the two.

The film Pyaar Mein Twist also had a young couple’s love story but the focus was consciously on the older couple’s romance and how their descendants weren’t keen for approving their relationship. Pyaar Mein Twist was a direct follow-up to the success of Baghban.

Dharmendra – Nafisa Ali

More recently director Anurag Basu tried to capture elderly romance in his film Life in a Metro where he cast Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali opposite each other. The film has multiple stories running parallel and their was once amongst it. The film had a very mature and modern outlook towards their relationship.

Keeping aside all the young couples in the film, Anurag Basu shot a smooch scene between this elderly couple which wasn’t sleazy like those young liplocks.

Mithun – Ranjeeta

Mithun Chakravarthy and Ranjeeta were a hit screen-pair in their heydays. They starred in several films which went on to become big hits.

Recently small time director Ashu Trikha got them together after years for a film titled Zindagi Tere Naam.

While Mithun was always here, Zindagi Tere Naam marked the comeback of Ranjeeta to the film world.

Paresh Rawal – Ratna Pathak Shah

Now this is an unusual pairing but Naseeruddin Shah did just that with his directorial debut where he cast his wife Ratna Pathak Shah opposite Paresh Rawal. Rawal after a long time tried his hands on a genre apart from comedy and emerged successful. This again was a film with multiple parallel stories and the romance between Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah was the highlight of their episode.

Naseeruddin managed to extract sublime performance from both and developed a smooth chemistry.

Shah Rukh Khan – Preity Zinta

Of course Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta are nowhere old but here we are pointing towards their characters in the film Veer-Zaara. The story starts when the two are still young but ends when they grow old by 22 years.

Towards the end of the film they are in their 60s but the love has only multiplied. There was an entire song shot on them with white hair and wrinkles on their face. Perhaps that what you call a mature love story.
