Shahid hopes to win with Jab we met

Shahid hopes to win with Jab we met, After Ishq Vishq, I feel it’s the right film for me as it is contemporary and will help me connect with the youth

Actor Shahid Kapur is in the news for the wrong reasons — his reported split with Kareena Kapoor, his co-star in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. The tension in the air is, nevertheless, palpable. Asked about the hype about the film generated by the split, Ali denied resorting to “cheap” means to sell the movie.

Jab We Met is a do-or-die venture for both Shahid and Kareena as their previous films together — Fida, 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke — haven’t quite craeted magic at the box office. Shahid does agree when he stereotypically says, “Yes it's an important film and we as actors are happy with the way it has turned out.”

What about their on-screen chemistry, which hasn’t quite spelt magic of late?

“It all depends on the film. If it’s not a good film, no matter how great the chemistry is, it won’t work. The rest is just a matter of statistics,” says Shahid diplomatically.

The two actors, however, desperately need a hit but when informed that they look good together in the promos, Shahid gives the credit to Ali.

“We shot this movie in a short period of 72 days and I would like to give the credit for the look to Ali,” says the actor who was hailed as the new Shah Rukh Khan after his debut in Ishq Vishq.
After Ishq Vishq, I feel it’s the right film for me as it is contemporary and will help me connect with the youth

“It’s a young film that I could connect with as a 26-year-old. The characters and situation in the film are believable and I am sure that everyone in the audience will relate to the situations that we face in the film,” says the actor.

Shahid has had a solo hit last year in Vivah and this raises the question why the actor has been so choosy.

“I believe that I work better when I do one film at a time. I would only want to enter the set when I have complete faith in what I am doing,” he says.

The actor’s forthcoming projects include Aziz Mirza’s next with Vidya Balan. “I am looking forward to doing a musical with Ken Ghosh (who launched him in Ishq Vishq and working on a script for my dad’s (Pankaj Kapur) directorial venture, which will have me in the lead,” says Shahid says. The film buffs are waiting.
