Police Protection For Chiranjeevi’s Daughter

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted police protection to the s newly-wed daughter and son-in-law of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi

after the couple moved court fearing a repeat of the Rizwan case with them.

The filmstar`s daughter Srija (19), a student of Chartered Accountancy, had created a flutter by marrying Sirish Bharadwaj (22), her lover of four years, against the wishes of her family at a secret ceremony at an Arya Samaj temple in Hyderabad on October 17.

Counsel for the couple, Pinky Anand mentioned before a division bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna that the couple got legally married but they feared for their lives because Chiranjeevi was an influential person.

"The couple came to the capital after changing so many cars to save themselves," she said, seeking police protection for them. She urged the court to hear the case on an urgent basis. The bench, taking her submission into account, fixed the matter for hearing at 2 pm on Monday.

Breaking his silence on his younger daughter Srija`s secret love marriage, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi had on Sunday wished happiness for her. He, however, remained silent on whether he accepted the marriage.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi`s family is asking the eloped couple to return. "There is no threat to their life. They are welcome back in the family," said Pavan Kalyan, the younger brother of Chiranjeevi.

Pavan, who is also a popular Telugu actor, surrendered his weapon at the Jubilee Hills police station to make it clear that there was no threat to Chiranjeevi`s daughter Sirija and her husband Sirish Bharadwaj from the family.

"My brother`s daughter ran away and married the boy without telling us. It hurt my brother and the entire family. It is okay to run away but she told journalists that they faced threats to their lives from us. I am surrendering the weapon to tell her that we are not after their lives," the actor said.
