Simple Kapadia (born 15 August 1958) (died 10 November 2009) was an actress in Bollywood and a costume designer. She was a 1970s bollywood actress. Her older sister is the actress Dimple Kapadia. She was the aunt of Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna and Si
ster-in-law of Rajesh Khanna.
She started her career in 1976 in Anurodh. She was younger to Dimple Kapadia by one and half years and made her acting debut in Anurodh (1977) opposite her then brother-in-law, Rajesh Khanna. The film's director Shakti Samanta said that although the film had an interesting story, he felt that audiences didn't want to see the leading man pursue his real life sister-in-law.[1] Simple Kapadia was thus unjustly blamed for the failure of the movie and suffered very caustic comments from a ruthless Indian press.
However, she showed a lot of character. During the years that followed, she acted in numerous movies- more than 20. Her most notable roles included: a sensual dancer in Lootmaar; a vamp in Pyar Ke do pal; a desirable thief in Shaaka; and a fascinating performance in Jeevan Dhara. She also did brilliantly in "Rehguzar" opposite Shekhar Suman in 1985. Unlike her sister Dimple Kapadia, things were never easy for her but she never gave up. She never received the recognition she deserved as an actress and despite several offers decided to quit acting in 1986.
Simple Kapadia thus stopped her acting career in 1986 after 10 years and turned to dress designing.She really excelled at it & she was a prominent dress designer in Bollywood, having won the National Award in 1994 for her costumes in Rudaali She had been suffering from Cancer but after battling the cancer for two years, she finally lost to the fatal disease.
Life had not been easy for Simple Kapadia- but she had faced boldly & courageously overcome the challenges coming to her and until her death at almost 51 and after 2 years fighting cancer, she could manage to look remarkably beautiful. [2]
