Manish Arora | Designer Manish Arora | Manish Arora Fashion Show in Paris

Manish Arora moved away from showbiz toward.....
a serious collection.

PARIS — As if the eye-popping projection with its graphic shapes were not enough, strobe lights blinked and giant crystals winked from sparkling dresses.

Well, this Manish Arora show was at the Crazy Horse, the famous song-and-dance Paris cabaret. And the Indian designer has never met a piece of embellishment that he did not love. But this was not such a crazy show from India’s ebullient artisan, who had taken geometry as his theme and used the twirl of a compass or the angle of a square to give a graphic edge to his slim-line clothes. The subcontinent’s brilliant colors were toned down — relatively speaking — so that just an aurora borealis of rich hues appeared on an otherwise white dress or a vivid orange was allowed to appear without the inevitable accompaniment of pink. Celebrating the collaborations that keep him afloat, the letters MAC, for the cosmetics giant, were printed on one dress. But mostly the collection saw Mr. Arora moving away from showbiz toward a serious collection, using knits, cotton and silk, as well as, of course, those sequins and crystals.
