Urvashi Dhanorkar: Small-Screen Actress Assaults Domestic Servant

Urvashi Dhanorkar, a familiar face on Indian television, will not be seen in amiable light again. She was seized into custody in Mumbai on Saturday on charges of assault on her 10-year old maid, who helped as a domestic servant in the actress’s home. The small-screen actress came under the scrutiny of Child Labour Act and Juvenile Justice Act and reportedly awaits her court hearing.

The 10 year old maid came forward in media in her critical condition. She accused Urvashi of abusing and manhandling her when she was caught eating some food stuff from the actress’s refrigerator. Following the incident the girl was held captive for several days at an end without any food. The maid was hit severely on her back as the battered girl showed assault scars, and was also brutally hit in her eye. She even complained that her arm had been heartlessly burnt.

Sources reveal that the girl had been adopted from her actual parents who are still to arrive at the scene. They are in Amravati from where Dhanorkar had got the girl with the promise of giving her good education, but all those promises had been thwarted.

Dhanorkar’s neighbors were alarmed when the maid tried fleeing Dhanorkar’s home in her critical condition. They helped her to get to the closest police station. The girl is in police custody waiting for her parents to arrive from Amravati.

Medical reports confirmed that the girl had been assaulted. Maharashtra Labour Minister Nawab Malik told sources that Dhanorkar would be penalized severely for her crime and the law would ensure that strict action is taken in this regard.
