Chuck pairs up with an unlikely ally in his war with Jack over Bass Industries. Plus, Nate and Vanessa spend a romantic evening at the opera.

In retaliation for her teacher, Rachel, not playing by the unspoken rules of Constance Billard, Blair comes up with a plan to bring her down. After Chuck wakes up in a hotel and only has a minor recollection of what happened the previous evening and who he spent the evening with, Nate and Vanessa try to help him fill in the missing pieces of what is turning out to be an increasingly intriguing mystery.

Serena develops a crush on the play's director, Julian, and enlists Vanessa's knowledge of theater to help her get the otherwise uninterested guy's attention. Blair receives devastating news about her future that leads her on a witch hunt for the person responsible. Dan and Rachel agree to stay away from each other in the aftermath of being discovered as more than teacher and student, but find it impossible to keep that promise. And Chuck enlists help from an unlikely source -- his nemesis, Carter Baizen

Meanwhile, Sookie panics because she hasn't given birth by the date she's supposed to, and Lorelai calms her with stories of the night Rory was born. Luke's wife, Nicole, tells Luke that she wants to postpone their divorce and give their relationship a chance. And Lane finds a great guitarist, Gil, but he is a lot older than everyone else in the band.

When the editor of the Yale student newspaper tells Rory that her articles are dull, she writes a scathing review of the Yale ballet and becomes the vindictive lead ballerina's target. Meanwhile, surprised to see Nicole at the diner, Lorelai forces Luke to admit that he and Nicole have put their divorce on hold and are dating again. Emily berates both Richard and Lorelai, prompting Lorelai to stop worrying about her mother's feelings and finally accept Jason's invitation to dinner instead of staying at Emily's party. Meanwhile, Richard introduces Paris to his former classmate Asher Flemming, who is now a distinguished Yale professor. Later, Rory is astonished when she later spots Paris and the professor kissing.

Mulder undergoes an experimental form of hypnotherapy to recover his memories about his sister's abduction but the treatment has side effects including psychotic behaviour and Mulder wakes up one morning in a motel room with someone else's blood all over him.

While investigating the discovery of a preserved alien body found in the mountains of Canada, Mulder is contacted by Michael Kritschgau who tells him about a government conspiracy not to keep alien activity a secret, but to make people believe in them without question and Mulder has been the prime target. With the idea that everything he believes is a lie, Mulder appears to take his own life.
