Bollywood Box Office Report April 2009

Bollywood Box Office Report April 2009

Without trying to sound monotonous or repetitive, we have to start once again with the bad and sad news that the producers/distributors versus multiplexes game of one-upmanship continues. This week has for release just KOOL NAHI HOT HAIN HUM, a film that was supposed to have hit the screens last week itself but was postponed by a week. Rest of the list includes a host of dubbed films.

Last Friday saw the release of MERI PADOSAN, the dubbed DASHAVTAR and the English film, CHOWRASTA - CROSSROADS OF LOVE. While MERI PADOSAN is a disaster from the word go, COFFEE HOUSE is a total loss and CHOWRASTA - THE CROSSROADS OF LOVE has nil prospects. The last release, Kamal Haasan's DASHAVTAR saw a weak opening and will not be appreciated. To sum it up things are moving from bad to worse!

The collections of Arshad Warsi's EK SE BURE DO are as bad as the title of the film suggests! In its opening week the film collected 6.25 lakhs from Bombay, 1.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 3.15 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.10 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.50 lakhs from Jaipur and 4 lakhs from Hyderabad. In its opening week, EK SE BURE DO has netted a meager 50 lakhs from India and adds to the list of disasters.

While on PAL PAL DIL KE SSAAT, the audience refused to give even a moment of thought to the Ajay Jadeja, Vinod Kambli and the Mahie Gill starrer, which proves to be an unmitigated disaster.

The last venture of the same week, COFFEE HOUSE (released in Bombay last Friday), could not entice the audience to come in and taste its flavour. The film collected a miserly 1.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh each (approx) from Noida and Gurgaon. With such negligible collections, do we need to add anything more?

Moving on to Nagesh Kukunoor's Akshay Kumar-Ayesha Takia starrer, 8x10 TASVEER, the film failed to cash in on the open week and has crashed. In it's second week, the film managed to collect 40.25 lakhs from Bombay, 15.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.50 lakhs from Jamnagar, 4 lakhs from Pune, 2 lakhs from Nasik, 1.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 30 lakhs from Delhi city, 6.15 lakhs from Noida, 4 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Meerut, 8.10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.05 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 5.35 lakhs from Nagpur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 8.60 lakhs from Jaipur, 10.25 lakhs from Hyderabad and 2.05 lakhs from Nanded. Adding another 3 crores, 8 X10 TASVEER has netted 12.25 crores in two weeks from India and is a trade disaster. The film has also been dumped in the Overseas with a paltry $123,566 from UK.

The collections of Nana Patekar-Bobby Deol starrer, EK-THE POWER OF ONE, have crashed further. The film collected 6 lakhs from Bombay, 1.20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.30 lakhs from Baroda, 1.05 lakhs from Vapi, 1 lakh from Pune, 3.15 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh each (approx) from Ghaziabad , Agra and Meerut, 1.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.10 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.10 lakhs from Aurangabad. With 55 lakhs during its recent most run, EK-THE POWER OF ONE has netted close to 6 crores in three weeks from India. The film though remains in the flop category.

Meanwhile Jehangir Surti's AA DEKHEN ZARA is on its last legs. The film collected 3 lakhs each from Bombay and Ahmedabad, 1.20 lakhs from Rajkot, 7.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Noida, 1.35 lakhs from Lucknow and 2.10 lakhs from Hyderabad. With another 45 lakhs, AA DEKHEN ZARA has netted a poor 5.20 crores in three weeks from India. The film is a big setback for all concerned.

Just like last week, the Hollywood film, FAST AND FURIOUS, has shown some really steady collections, especially from the Metros and big cities. The English version collected 45 lakhs from Bombay, 3.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 21.15 lakhs from Delhi city, 6.25 lakhs from Noida, 6.20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.75 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from indore, 9 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3 lakhs from Mangalore. It's Hindi (dubbed) version, RAFTAAR KA JUNOON though has crashed, yet the film managed to collect 7.25 lakhs from Bombay, 9.55 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5.55 lakhs from Rajkot, 6 lakhs from Pune, 1.05 lakhs from Sangli, 1.15 lakhs from Nasik, 1.10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 5 lakhs from Nagpur and 2 lakhs from Indore. Taking this week into account, the English and dubbed version of FAST AND FURIOUS has netted a creditable 4.50 crores in two weeks from India. The film is definitely a plus fare!
