Abhay Deol

Abhay Deol is dubbing for Dev Benegal's film, tentatively titled Road Trip. An intimate scene comes up on screen and he quips, "Er, how should I dub for this?" Just when it gets interesting, he stops to take a break for a chat, instead of indulging in some requisite heavy breathing.

In Mumbai to seal the deal for three films, including his own production, Abhay is relaxed and in good humour. He is now the footloose and fancyfree Bollywood bachelor, and the bad boy vibe seems to be working for him. In no hurry to be tied down, he says, "I'm dating a few women. There are some very beautiful women in New York." He isn't stingy with spreading the love in Mumbai either, and he admits it rather bashfully.

Abhay is geared up to play Mr Knightley in the adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma in Anil Kapoor's production with Sonam. No frock coats and top hats here, the film is a modern adaption of the Victorian novel. He also starts his own production around September.

While Abhay is scouting for scripts that will make room for Dharmendra, he makes it clear that he isn't rebelling against his family name. "I'm rebelling against the system. Bollywood has got to make room for non-formula films. The process has started. I like working with younger directors, because the older ones are probably set in their ways and don't understand how we think."
